Nestled in the hillside just 60km from Marbella and 116km from Malaga within
Andalucia is the wonderful town of Ronda. The town, steeped in history is dominated by the fact
that the town is split in two sections by a 100m deep gorge. The two parts of the city are linked by the Puente Nuevo, or New Bridge
(see picture right), which took 42 years to build in 1751 to cross the spectacular gorge. This magnificent structure is one of the most
photographed in Spain. On one side of the bridge is the old Moorish town with many historic buildings including the House of the Moorish King,
which is worth a visit. On the other side is El Mercadillo, a more recent urban development. There is evidence of prehistoric man living near
Ronda and the town has been influenced by every generation since. To the East of the town are the well preserved Arab Baths which were
accidentally discovered when the house above them collapsed. The town is one of the most visited places in
Andalucia and attracts thousands of visitors each week. The natural region of Ronda offers
idial microclimatic conditions for making red, rose and white wine of high quality, Ronda's altitude over sea level, stable rain level and
special conditions of warm days and cool nights have helped at the establishment of wineyards and wine cellars at the Serrania. Areas
like Antequera, Alhaurin and
Nerja offer the same kind of tranquil beauty and culture, however, if you prefer liveleness,
Puerto Banus in Marbella, said to be the playground of the rich and famous is the place for
you. this is not the only place you could go if this is the case though, other touristic areas like
Torremolinos,
Fuengirola,
Benalmadena and Mijas while still
being beautiful, are lively and active towns. To Pick your property for sale in Ronda, click here.
